Hi! I’m Carrie and this is my blog. You might also see some posts from my husband Mark, if I can rope him into it, even though he has his own blog.
Mark & I were married June 9, 2006 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. We lived there several years and then relocated to Peoria, Illinois in 2011 with a team of people to start a new church there. In 2015, Mark was approached with an opportunity for a great job in Orange County, California, and we decided to be adventurous and go with it!
I am 30 years old and had never lived outside of Central Illinois or visited California prior to our move. I’m not adventurous by nature, but am pushing myself to enjoy the opportunity. I created this blog to motivate me to try new things so I have something to write about! (Also just to keep my family & friends updated, because everyone knows I’m terrible at phone calls.)
My passions in life at the moment are Coke Zero, genealogy research, learning ukulele, swimming, sarcasm, singing loudly to pop music, running from spiders, binge watching “How It’s Made” episodes, and city builder video games (think Sim City). I studied child development and early childhood education and have strong opinions about how adults should interact with kids. Don’t worry, I don’t give parenting advice unless it’s solicited! I’m hoping to have my own preschool classroom again someday. I love doing art and music activities with kids and letting them be their crazy selves.
Mark is a software engineer, and also enjoys working on programming projects in his spare time (who comes home from work to work for free?!). He likes all sorts of video games, even ones where you have to shoot things, and is widely known in our friend circles as a Mario Kart prodigy. He’s also a big music fan, enjoying genres that I call “whale music”, “weird noises”, and “beep boop sounds”. He’s been running soundboards at church since high school and is pretty darn good at it. He can also draw adorable animals. Seriously. Have him draw you a hippo.
