New School Year!

I blame my lack of updates on my boring life, but now that I’ve started school again, I have something going on!

School started August 24th for me at Parkland, and the only class I’m taking this semester is my first practicum! So after a meeting the first Monday to fill out paperwork and find out exactly what we were supposed to be doing, I started working in the classroom at the Parkland Child Development Center! I’m in Room B, which is 3 to 5-year-olds. I go Monday, Wednesday, & Friday mornings.

So far, it’s been great! The kids are adorable and I already feel pretty confident in the classroom. I was really nervous that I would start and discover that I hate working in a preschool. I absolutely LOVE it, though. I like the classroom teacher, aide, and my fellow practicum student, too, so it is shaping up to be a good semester.

I’m super excited for next week, because we’re doing a food theme in the classroom and we’ll be doing cooking activities with the kids. I think cooking is something that all kids should get to do fairly often, but most of them rarely ever do. Lots of teachers won’t do cooking activities because they can be messy and hard, but I think it’s worth it.

In other Egli news, we’ll be moving next door to live in the unit by Blake & Brandy sometime very soon, whenever things get painted and fixed and things are carted over there, etc. I’m excited about that, too. We bought some lovely new furniture off of craigslist this week: a couch, loveseat, and “over-sized chair”. This so-called over-sized chair is really just another loveseat. It will be nice to have the walls painted and some new furniture.

In other other Egli news, Mark might be joining me to blog here. Stay tuned.

Note to Self:

If you have to take a test the next day, don’t take a really long nap in the middle of the day, then stay up all night and drink two cups of coffee and a soda to stay awake before your test. It will just make you fuzzy-headed and distracted when you’re trying to review. Also, it will be hard to write your essays, because your hands will be shaking.

In other news, It’s a good thing I put on lots of face lotion and chapstick today, because the wind is brutal…especially when you have to park a million miles away from the building. Sheesh. I think it took me longer to find a parking spot than it did to take my test! But at least I didn’t get wind burn.
